Day 174: Joy
I imagine if you read a Mary Oliver poem a day, you would be infinitely happy and contented in this world.
For she knows what matters. And how to say it. There is a shining truth in her poems that once realised, transforms your view of the world.
Don't Hesitate - Mary Oliver
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that's often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
thank you for this!in the midst of so much grief and confusion, localy and globally-to focus on joy, on love, that is the essential challenge
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one alright, we could all do with reading Mary Oliver on a daily basis I think!
ReplyDeleteI just started reading this fine blog of yours, too! Each of your blogs amply demonstrates that we are fortunate, as blog readers, that, in all the world, just as there's more than just one fine jewel, or just one flavor of coffee, or just one type of chocolate, or even just one beautiful sunset, there's more than just one fantastic blog shared by you, too! Thank you, (more than once), and Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThank you Richard! It's great to receive positive feedback!
DeleteI would add to your list and say that there too is not just one poem out there, but a whole variety of them to suit every mood, emotion, event and to inspire, delight and entertain! ( And that's what I hope this blog will show...!)
Happy Christmas to you too!
(And by the way, I'll be sharing Christmas poems all this week!)
