Day 56: Summer Stars

Is there anything comparable to summer nights? Clear and warm and starry and the feeling that the whole universe is a mere stone's throw away, and there for the taking.

Summer Stars - Carl Sandburg

Bend low again, night of summer stars.
So near you are, sky of summer stars,
So near, a long-arm man can pick off stars,
Pick off what he wants in the sky bowl,
So near you are, summer stars,
So near, strumming, strumming,
So lazy and hum-strumming.

  1. Love this--one I wasn't familiar with from Sandburg. It sparked quite a bit of converstation between a friend and I and we've challenged each other to write our own star poems. Thanks for being a vehicle of inspiration!

  2. Cool! I love this one too. A star poem - ooh, I like the sound of that! How about a meteor poem too as there's not many of those around!
